Ogochukwu C. Nweke, a legal practitioner admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2001, transitioned into the realm of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in 2015. This marked a pivotal turn in his career, reflecting his commitment to exploring innovative legal methods. Prior to his formal ADR training, Nweke had been actively involved in ADR practices since 1999 through various out-of-court settlements, victim-offender mediation, and facilitating conflict resolutions for churches, families, companies, and communities without litigation. His initial ADR training at the Gamey and Gamey ADR Institute, Ghana, affiliated with the University of the Virgin Islands, USA, laid a solid foundation for his future pursuits in this field. Furthering his expertise, Nweke completed courses from Leiden University and ESSEC Business School, focusing on arbitration, mediation, negotiation and other forms of conflict resolution. Nweke extends his passion for ADR to academia, teaching at Regent University College of Science and Technology, Accra, Ghana since 2020. He enlightens students on the significance of ADR in modern legal practices at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Concurrently, he applies his ADR skills as an Arbitrator and Mediator with the Ghana National Labour Commission (NLC) and is an active member of the Ghana National Association of ADR Practitioners (GNAAP). He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). In addition to his academic and professional roles, Nweke runs the Relationship Health Center (ReHeCe.), where ADR principles are employed to resolve relationship issues both in private settings and in the corporate world. His university administrative role further allows him to utilize his conflict resolution skills within the educational sector. Nweke’s journey in ADR, enriched by his pre-training experience and formal education post-2015, highlights his belief in ADR as a means to preserve and strengthen relationships, offering a comprehensive and empathetic approach to dispute resolution. His evolution from a traditional legal practitioner to an ADR expert exemplifies the transformative power of ADR in the legal landscape.
