About Me

Michael Gyang Owusu has over 29 years of experience in private legal practice. He is the CoFounder and Managing Partner of O & A Legal Consult. Michael has had extensive experience in corporate and commercial related practice and has worked as an external solicitor and legal advisor for Standard Chartered Bank, Unilever Ghana Limited and Neoplan Ghana Limited in the past. He is currently the external solicitor for SIC Financial Services Limited, Accra Mall, West Hills Mall and the Kumasi City Mall. Michael has been active in arbitration-related disputes before the courts and regularly represents clients in arbitration proceedings. He is also regularly appointed as an arbitrator at the Ghana Arbitration Center. His understanding of the law of evidence and arbitration concepts blends with his experience as a corporate attorney to deliver timely and efficient proceedings. Michael is also a legal academic. He was appointed in 2010 as the foundation Coordinator of the Ghana Law School, Kumasi Campus, where he lectures in ADR and Law of Evidence and brings to bear his extensive practical experience in his delivery. He has also designed and delivers a programme in the Arbitration and Civil Procedure for the Department of Real Estate at the College of Architecture and Built Environment of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). ADR Practice & Expertise Michael is also the President of the Ghana ADR Hub, a full-service ADR institution providing ADR services and training in Ghana. He has developed an extensive Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Training Consultancy Practice and has consulted for various organizations, including the Judicial Training Institute in its Court Connected ADR Programme; the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) in its Land Tenure Facilitation Project; the Fordham University School of Law and St. John’s University School of Law both in New York, USA in their International ADR programs in Ghana. He has also been invited to speak on the role of ADR in Ghana at both universities. He has considerable training in ADR. He participated in the International Visitors Programme of the U.S Department of State in 2002, researching ADR in the U.S Judicial System. In the same year, he received professional ADR practice training at the University of California, Sacramento Campus. Michael’s current interest is in creating a culture of judicial support for arbitration as a mechanism for commercial dispute resolution in Ghana. To this end, he is developing a manual on court interventions in arbitration proceedings in collaboration with the Judicial Training Institute.
