About Me

Hannah Owusu-Koranteng worked with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture as a District Officer for Nineteen (19) years before joining the General Agricultural Workers Union ( GAWU) as the Coordinator of the Rural Workers Project . After working with GAWU for five (5) years she resigned to work as a full time staff of Wacam which is a human rights and environmental mining advocacy NGO that was founded through the joint effort of Hannah and her husband Daniel Owusu-Koranteng . She holds a Certificate in General Agriculture from Kwadaso Agricultural College and Diploma in Horticulture from KNUST . She holds an M.A. in Environmental Management and Policy from University of Cape Coast( UCC) . She undertook a course on Reversing the resource curse: Theory and practice organised by the Central European University in Budapest . She has served as a member of Boards of local and international organizations. She served as a member of the International Board of Extractive Industry Transparency International ( EITI) from 2011 to 2013 . She represents CSOs on the Steering Committee of the Ghana Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative ( GHEITI) . She was a member of the Technical Committee representing Civil Society Groups for the drafting of Regulation on Compensation Principles for the Minerals and mining Law, 2006, Act703 in 2007. She was a member of the International Steering Committee of the Organisation for Economic Corporation and Development OECD Watch and from 2004 to 2008. She is a Professional ADR Practitioner and a Court-Connected Mediator . She holds a Professional Executive Master in ADR and Professional Executive Master in General Paralegal Studies . She is the Associate Executive Director of Wacam and has many publications on mining and environment to her credit . She was honoured with the “Right the Wrong” International Award in March 2015 by Oxfam America for promoting the leadership of women in communities affected by mining in Ghana, mentoring new female leaders and being a voice for the marginalised. She is married to Daniel Owusu-Koranteng and has two children Akua Owusu-Koranteng and Dr. Kojo Owusu-Koranteng . Her hobbies are singing, Reading and Watching nature.
