Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. is a former Chief of the Naval Staff (Commander of the Ghana Navy). He is a highly motivated, accomplished and skilled retired Naval Officer with unblemished military career. As a professional Naval Officer he has operated both afloat and ashore serving on several Ghana Navy Ships as Watch Keeping Officer, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer. In addition to various staff assignments, he was Directing Staff (Lecturer) at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff Collage and the Nigerian Command and Staff Collage respectively. He also served as the Military Assistant to the General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces. Before his appointment as the Navy Commander, he was the Chief of Staff of the entire Ghana Armed Forces. Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. has attended various specialized military and civil courses. Notable among them are the International Midshipman and International Sub Lieutenants Technical Courses at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth and the School of Maritime Operations, Portsmouth both in the United Kingdom. He also attended the Ghana Armed Forces Senior Command and Staff College where he emerged the best naval student. He is also a graduate of the Nasser Military Academy and High War College, Cairo, Egypt, where he obtained diploma in strategic studies. He holds Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) Degrees in Development Studies from the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) University of Ghana, Legon. He also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration with distinction from GIMPA in 1992. The Rear Admiral holds a First Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from the Pacific Southern University, California, United States of America, LLB from the University of Ghana, Legon and BL from the Ghana Law School. He was consequently called to the Bar in October, 2014. He also holds an Executive Masters in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Institute of Paralegal and Leadership Training, Accra in 2017. The Rear Admiral participated in the University of London 2 Summer (LLM) Law School programme in the year 2018 in London, United Kingdom. Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. is a visiting lecturer at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre where he lectures on Maritime Security. In 2007 and 2014, Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. participated in the 18 th and 21 st Seapower Symposium at the Naval War College, Rhode Island, United States of America as a resource person where he delivered well-researched papers on ‘The Concept of Global Fleet Station in relation to Economic Security and Solutions in the Gulf of Guinea ‘and’ Implementing Sustainable Maritime Security Measures in the Gulf of Guinea’ respectively. During his tenure as the Navy Commander, the Ghana Navy, for the first time, was declared and received the award as the best Navy in West Africa, in 2013. Indeed, the Rear Admiral had to fly to South Africa to receive the coveted award. His achievements are spectacular and unprecedented. The robust infrastructural development and capacity building he initiated as the Navy Commander are unprecedented, strikingly conspicuous and highly commendable. From May, 2013 to January, 2016, Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. was the Chairman of the 37 Military Hospital Management Board. Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, the Companion of the Order of the Volta (CV) and the Ivorian Medal, the Knight of the National Order by the Supreme Chancery. On 31 st October, 2017, the Ghana Navy honoured Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. by naming one of their newly acquired ships after him. An ultra- modern Naval Barracks at Tema Paradise Beach is also named ‘Biekro Barracks’. The Ghana Navy has also named its newly established museum located at the Naval Headquarters after Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. Having retired from the Ghana Armed Forces, Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. is a now full time private legal practitioner. Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro (Rtd) Esq. is married to Mrs. Leticia Biekro and the couple have four children.
